Is there a residency rule for Sugar Creek Police employees?
The City of Sugar Creek does not impose a requirement for municipal employees to live within the City. Commissioned police officer, by state statue, must reside within the State of Missouri.
What are the qualifications to become a police officer?
You must be 21 years of age, a high school graduate, and Missouri POST Class A License is required http://www.dps.state.mo.us An 8 week field training program is conducted after hiring.

How can I obtain a copy of a traffic accident report?
You may get a copy of the report 5-7 working days after the incident.  You may respond to the Sugar Creek Police Department or mail a request to 1001 Heroes Way, Sugar Creek, Missouri 64054.  The cost is $3.00 each, cash or money order payable to the City of Sugar Creek.  To get a report by mail, you must have the report number.  If you do not know the report number, call (816)252-7058 and someone will help you find it.
How do I obtain my Criminal History?
The Sugar Creek Municipal Clerk can give you your Sugar Creek criminal history only. To get your full Criminal History by mailing Missouri State Highway Patrol, Criminal Records Division, P.O. Box 568, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102. A $5.00 fee, either money order or certified check must accompany these requests. Information included in the request must contain: name, race, sex, date of birth, social security number. Any questions should be addressed to (573) 751-3313.

When are the weather sirens tested?
Early Warning Sirens will be tested on the first Wednesday of each month at 11:00 am. Sirens will not be tested during threatening weather. When weather conditions warrant the activation of the Early Warning Siren System, an "all clear" will not be given. Residents need to tune into the local radio or TV channel for information.
When can I get my fingerprints taken & how much?
Twenty-Four hours a day, seven days a week. The cost is $10.00 for the first card and $5.00 for any additional cards needed.
How can I obtain a release for my impounded vehicle?
Bring the title or pink slip to the Sugar Creek Police Department to receive a release form to take with you to the tow lot. The tow lot will not release any property or vehicle without a release form from us.
When am I required to stop for a school bus?
A driver shall stop upon meeting or overtaking from either direction any school bus which has stopped for the purpose of receiving or discharging students or other passengers, signaled by the flashing red lights and stop arm. A driver shall not proceed until the bus resumes or until signaled by it's driver to proceed.
Is there a curfew in Sugar Creek?
Persons 17 years and younger shall not be in or upon any public place within the city between the hours of 11:00 pm and 6 am. This does not apply if accompanied by parent or guardian or going to or from employment.
What types of fireworks are allowed?
The city ordinance allows fountains, snakes & sparklers. Everything explosive with a boom is prohibited.
Does Sugar Creek have a Pit bull Ordinance?
Yes, November 23, 2006 Pit bull Ordinance #3069 was passed by the Board.  It is against the law to own, possess, keep, exercise control over, maintain, harbor, transport or sell any pit bull within the city.  There was a "Grandfather Clause" for people who lived within the city who owned pit bull(s) prior to the passage of the ordinance, which they have to renew their pit bull license yearly with the Chief of Police.

How do I reserve shelters at the city parks?

If you intend to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish, or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical, plumbing, or elevator system, you are required to pull a building permit. If you have any doubts as to whether the work you are performing falls under the scope of these provisions, please contact the Building Official at 816-252-4400 ext. 137. Cosmetic interior remodeling, such as replacement of cabinets, doors, windows, carpeting, and plumbing fixtures, etc. do not require a permit.
Does replacing plumbing or electrical fixtures - such as faucets, toilets, lights or ceiling fans - require a building permit?
No, you do not need a permit to change plumbing or electrical fixtures. However, if you add new plumbing or electrical fixtures where they didn't already exist, you must pull a building permit.
I intend to do work on my own home. Do I still need to pull a building permit?
Yes, a permit must be pulled even if you are performing the work on your own home. This includes, but is not limited to, basement finishes, deck construction, and room additions.
Do I need to pull a building permit to build a fence or retaining wall?
Fences that are 6 feet high or less do not require a building permit. If the fence is higher than 6’, it does require a permit. To obtain a permit for fences higher than 6', engineered drawings must be submitted stating that the fence can withstand a 90-mile per hour, 3-second wind gust. 6' fences are allowed in the rear yard and 4' open fences are allowed in the front yard. There are very specific requirements for corner lots or lots with two frontages. All fences must be within the property boundaries. The finished side of any fence must face towards your neighbors. Retaining walls over 4-feet high also require a building permit and engineered drawings stamped by a Missouri Licensed Engineer.
Do I need to pull a building permit to build a shed?
The building code does not apply to accessory structures that have less than 120 square feet of floor space. However, all accessory structures must be placed in accordance with structure setbacks identified in the Zoning Ordinance. Larger sheds or garages must meet the City’s Subdivision Code and Zoning Ordinance requirements and require a building permit. If you intend to install electrical, plumbing, or mechanical systems in the shed, you will be required to pull a permit for that portion of the work. To confirm the zoning setback requirement s prior to installing a shed, please contact the Building Official at 816/252-4400 ext. 137.
Do I need to pull a building permit to build a swimming pool or to install a hot tub?
Yes, because installation of a swimming pool or hot tub requires, at the very least, installation of electrical wiring, you are required to pull a permit for such work.
Do I need to pull a building permit to re-roof my house?
The City code allows a maximum of 3 layers of asphalt shingles on a roof.
What happens once I have pulled a building permit?
Once the permit has been pulled, you will be required to call for inspections at certain stages of the construction. A building inspector will come to the job-site and review the work for compliance with the building code. If the work passes inspection, you will be allowed to continue to the next stage. If the work does not pass, you will be given a list of corrections to make. Once the corrections are made, you may call for re-inspection. After all of the necessary inspections have been made and approved, the permit will be closed. Once I have pulled a building permit, how long do I have to complete the work?
Work must begin within 180 days of the permit being issued. Exterior work - such as walls, room additions, decks, patio covers, etc. - shall be limited to 180 days duration (from the day work begins). All other work shall be limited to 1 year (from the day work begins). If work is not completed within the time allowed, an extension not to exceed 180 days may be granted. The extension must be requested in writing and justifiable cause must be demonstrated.

I have rats, will the city exterminate these?
No. However, the City undertakes a program of rat control through an agreement with a pest control contractor. If you are having your house exterminated the city would like to coordinate efforts with you so the problem is eliminated and not just relocated. Call the Police Codes Enforcement Officer at 816-252-7058 to register complaints or report the sighting of rats. Call the Public Works Department to coordinate city baiting of manholes in the area at 816-252-4413 ext. 301.
My neighbors will not cut their grass, who do I report this to?
All yards must be cut so that the height of the grass is less than 12" high and all noxious weeds are eliminated. The City will notify persons not complying with regulations of the need to mow their property. If the property is not mowed, the City will see that the property is mowed and bill the violator a fee. Contact the Police Codes Enforcement Officer at 816-252-7058 to report violations.
My neighbor's yard is full of debris and junk?
The Municipal Code prohibits any accumulation of worn out, broken or worthless items, including broken toys, washing machines, clothes dryers, stoves, ranges, refrigerators, newspapers, trash or refuse on any property. Useful items, such as lumber, boxes, barrels, bottles, cans, ladders, carts, logs and metal must be properly stored. Exterior storage of cars, trailers, campers and boats is required to be on paved surface.
There is a new renter moving into the neighbors structure, who can I call to check that the property has a current Occupancy Permit?
You may call either the On-Duty Firefighters or the Building Official to report a recent occupation of a building that you suspect has not been inspected by the city. The On-Duty Fighters can be reached at 816-521-7923 ext. 5. The Building Official can be reached at 816-252-4400 ext. 137.
