The City of Sugar Creek was incorporated in 1920, and operates under the Mayor and Board of Aldermen form of government. The Board consists of four Aldermen. Two represent the City's first ward and two represent the second ward. The Mayor and Aldermen each serve a two year term.
The Mayor and Board hire the City's department heads (except for the Chief of Police who is elected to a four year term and the City Collector who is elected to a two year term.) In addition, the Mayor and Board are responsible for passing ordinances, adopting a budget, appointing committees and more.
